Zirconia Crowns

   Assessment and plan

   We establish, clinically and radiologically, whether the tooth needs a crown or whether it can be saved with a more conservative restoration that keeps more of its structure. If there is a problem with the root or the gum, that is dealt with first: a crown is not placed over ground that has not healed.

   Preparation and 3D scanning

   We prepare the tooth circumferentially, under local anaesthesia, giving it the shape that will support the crown, then take a digital impression by intraoral scanning. Scanning is more comfortable than a conventional impression with material and lets us check on screen straight away what we have captured.

   CAD/CAM milling

   The crown is digitally designed, milled from a block of zirconia and individually colour-matched in the laboratory, so that it matches not a shade from a catalogue but your own neighbouring teeth. In the meantime you wear a temporary crown, which protects the prepared tooth.

4. 04

   Fitting and cementation

   We check the contact points with the neighbouring teeth, so that floss passes through without tearing, check the bite in every movement, not only when you close straight down, polish any adjusted surfaces, and only then cement the final crown.

   Step 1

   3D intraoral scan

   We take a digital impression in a few minutes, without conventional impression materials, which as a rule means more comfort during the procedure. The image of your arches appears on screen in real time and can be used for planning straight away, and if an area comes out unclear we rescan it on the spot.

   Step 2

   Digital treatment planning

   Through CAD/CAM planning, we design the proposed restoration in detail before any work begins: the shape, the length, the way the tooth will sit next to its neighbours and how the bite will close. We look at the plan together on screen, adjust it until it reflects as closely as possible what you want, within the limits of what is clinically possible, and only then move on.

   Step 3

   Execution & cementation

   The restoration is milled or pressed in the laboratory, tried in and adjusted for a precise fit, then permanently cemented. The try-in before cementation is the moment when you can say what you like and what you do not, while something can still be changed. At the follow-up visits we check together that everything feels comfortable.
